Drone Technology Boosts Forest Fire Prevention and Rescue Efficiency in Qianjiangyuan-Baishanzu National Park
BEIJING, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have emerged as a game-changer in forest fire prevention and rescue operations, enabling real-time monitoring and rapid early warnings at the Qianjiangyuan-Baishanzu National Park (Candidate Site) in Zhejiang Province, eastern China.
Recently, a UAV deployed in the park detected suspected smoke and fire in farmland on the periphery of the national park. The intelligent monitoring system immediately triggered an early warning, demonstrating the pivotal role of drone technology in safeguarding forest ecosystems.
In the Qianjiangyuan Park area of the candidate site, once the UAV identified the suspected fire, the system promptly sent early warning text messages to administrators and rangers at all levels. Thanks to the rapid response, the outdoor fire was extinguished within 15 minutes, preventing it from spreading to the nearby forested areas.
It is reported that the park has equipped multiple UAV patrol devices and gradually built an intelligent "brain" for 24-hour all-weather three-dimensional collaborative management and control. This system integrates advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and real-time data transmission, forming a closed-loop management from fire detection to disposal.
To date, the park has handled more than 300 incidents, including suspected smoke, fire and unclean water areas, through UAV patrols and monitoring. The UAVs can patrol 16 square kilometers of mountain forests in 30 minutes and achieve full coverage of the entire park within 7 days, increasing the overall patrol efficiency by more than 15 times compared with traditional manual patrol methods.
Meanwhile, a forest fire fighting drill was recently held in the Baishanzu Park area of the candidate site, showcasing the diverse capabilities of UAVs in emergency rescue. Unlike ordinary patrol UAVs, the ones deployed here are capable of autonomous patrols and can also deliver rescue supplies, with a maximum load capacity of 110 kilograms.
These heavy-load UAVs can effectively perform fire-fighting tasks such as hoisting water bags to mountainous areas and conducting fire-extinguishing operations over designated fire points, addressing the challenges of difficult access and inefficient manual material transportation in mountainous forest areas.
Qianjiangyuan-Baishanzu National Park (Candidate Site) boasts a unique and fragile ecosystem, making effective forest fire prevention crucial to its protection. The wide application of UAV technology has not only improved the efficiency of fire prevention and patrol but also reduced the safety risks faced by rangers during on-foot patrols in remote and hazardous areas.
As drone technology continues to advance, it is playing an increasingly important role in forest resource protection, providing strong technical support for building a smarter and more efficient forest fire prevention and rescue system in China.
