New Drone Regulations Take Effect in China (March 1)
China’s new rules for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) came into force on March 1, with supporting rules for the Interim Regulations on UAV Flight Management fully implemented.
- Full real-name registration: All drones, including toy-grade ones, must be registered in the official UOM System, with a QR code affixed to the fuselage.
- Mandatory flight reporting: Commercial flights require a CAAC drone license and compulsory third-party liability insurance.
- Strict penalties: Violations can result in a maximum fine of 20,000 yuan and detention. Unauthorized "black flights" are classified as acts endangering public security.
