Meituan , through its drone subsidiary Keeta Drone, has announced the launch of a trial drone meal delivery route in Ting Kok Village, Tai Po, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups.
By adopting low-altitude logistics technology, the service provides meal delivery for the elderly in the area, tackling the difficulties faced by remote rural communities including long distances, labor shortages and long waiting times.
The newly launched drone route departs from Hong Kong Science Park and flies directly to Ting Kok Village. Taking advantage of straight-line flight and avoiding ground traffic congestion, the delivery time has been drastically shortened from more than one and a half hours by road to about 10 to 15 minutes.
During the initial trial period, the service will offer lunch and dinner deliveries from Monday to Saturday, excluding public holidays.
