Modern Technologies Including Big Data and Drones Bring Greater Innovation to Farmland
Across China, modern technologies such as big data and drones are being integrated into agricultural production, making farmland increasingly high-tech.
In Guoyang County, Bozhou City, Anhui Province, 1.86 million mu of winter wheat has entered a critical stage of spring field management. Local authorities are promoting intelligent agricultural machinery and precise field management to support scientific and efficient farming.
In contiguous wheat fields in Dianji Town, Guoyang County, plant-protection drones fly steadily along pre-set routes to carry out multi-purpose spraying operations. This year, thanks to multi-centrifugal nozzle technology, the atomization performance of these drones has improved by 30%, achieving higher flow, finer droplets and more even coverage, enabling precise fertilization and scientific pesticide application.
To make the most of the key spring management window, 170 agricultural technicians and more than 300 science and technology correspondents have been assigned to villages and households. They monitor seedling growth, soil moisture and plant diseases, provide hands-on guidance in field training sessions, and develop customized management plans to lay a solid foundation for a good wheat harvest.
Gaotang, Shandong: Scientific Seedling Cultivation Ensures Uniform Growth and Stable Quality
Early spring is a crucial period for raising seedlings of fruits and vegetables. In Gaotang County, Liaocheng City, Shandong Province, standardized seedling breeding bases and scientific cultivation methods are being used to ensure the supply of high-quality seedlings.
At a seedling base in Guhe Town, workers are busy sowing, hardening and managing netted melon seedlings. The base uses integrated water and fertilizer equipment to precisely control humidity and nutrients, ensuring uniform growth and stable quality of the seedlings.
In recent years, the county has continued to develop high-standard seedling bases and intelligent greenhouses, promoting intelligent temperature control, integrated water and fertilizer systems, and automatic environmental monitoring. It has built a modern agricultural system integrating improved variety breeding, standardized planting and socialized services. Last year, the county’s protected agriculture covered 24,600 mu with an output of 167,000 tons.
Jianyang, Sichuan: Wheat Enters Heading Stage, Tech-based Management Cuts Costs and Boosts Efficiency
In Jianyang, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, big data, artificial intelligence, drones and other modern technologies are being widely used in spring farming and management, transforming traditional agriculture into a more precise and efficient model.
In a modern agricultural industrial park, winter wheat has entered the heading stage, requiring effective pest control, weeding, irrigation and topdressing. Unlike traditional farming, technicians manage the wheat fields remotely online. Intelligent devices in the fields collect real-time data on soil moisture, pests and diseases, which is uploaded to servers and analyzed by big data and AI models to generate precise field management instructions.
This smart and refined farming model saves more than 30% of water and 80% of labor costs, greatly reducing costs and improving efficiency. This year, Sichuan is promoting advanced technologies across the province, including the Tianfu Smart Agriculture AI Model, full-process drone operations, Beidou-enabled intelligent agricultural machinery, real-time monitoring of four key field conditions, intelligent water-saving irrigation and precise fertilization, accelerating the transition to smart agriculture.
